26 Nov 2007 - Day 1 - Macbook Pro Arrives
And it begins.

The Challenge of converting from being a PC user to being a MAC user, will i be satisfied, and perhaps become a buyer after just 90 days?

November 26, Day 1.

The Mac Book Pro arrived from Apple, a slimline box, as always packaging is something that Apple do better than anyone else.

So after about 30 minutes, what have I done and how do i feel?
1/ Bootup was easy, done and simple.
2/ As this machine is pre-configured with plenty of software, I don't have much to do.  Thanks to Microsoft I have Office:mac 2004 - the new edition is not due until early 2008.
3/ Launched WORD, works well, simple.  I am not a huge fan of the windows being all over each other rather than taking over the whole screen - or Maximised as i am used to.  I'm sure i will work that out.
4/ Plugged in a good old mouse. The Touchpad on this notebook is good, but I think the first thing a PC user should do on conversion is use a traditional 'PC' style mouse, 2 buttons and scroll-wheel.  I plugged it in and it worked within seconds.
5/ Inserted my SANDISK micromate SD card reader, whacked in the SD-HC 4 Gig card I have in my Sanyo HD camera and immediately iPhoto lauches and allows me to import the pics.  A simple process, easy to do easy to use.
6/ When opening iPhoto i was prompted to perform a software update - 13 items were recommended to be updated, So i am doing all those things.  The Apple update software i am used to as it is common now on a PC if you have Quicktime or iTunes.

Good things:
'Alt-Tab' program switching I am a regular PC user of - works fine - Its APPLE KEY-Tab on the MAC.
Ctrl-C and Ctrl-V copy and paste - replicated with APPLE-C and APPLE-V

Negatives:
So the image upload function on my website doesn't work - I wonder how i will fix that!
(UPDATE: Installed Firefox, and the image upload applet works! - Safari seems to be the issue there.)

Tips for people:
When selecting multiple images, for example in the iPhoto Library, i click the first one, then the last one while holding SHIFT - As i would on a PC - however when i want to un-select a SINGLE image, ALT is not the key to pick.  its the APPLE key.  This Apple key seems crucial!

Good to hear you have given yourself plenty of time to get used to the Mac, they really are not so different these days.

As someone who has used both Windows and Mac for the last 15+ years feel free to ask if you have any questions or issues during the transition.

yeah, i think because you are a very techy guy, to be able to do it in 90, should be easy...
but unlike my grandpa and nannie, who just recently purchased, 20" imac, ibook, i a pc dude had to figure out a problem he was having with parralels or some program like that, it is a emulator for windows...
me and my dad after 2 hours of work, fix the problem and he's program work quite nicely...
