| 04 Dec 2007 - External Hard Drive to move your data PC to MAC? Think Again! |
 |
For some time now I have kept almost all my data on an external drive at work. Why? Who knows? To be sure big brother is not watching? to be sure i could do an easy upgrade should I be offered it?
That aside, it proved handy now having this Mac for a few months.
HOWEVER, there was a problem.
Plugging it in - no issue
Opening the files - no issue
Editing the file - AHA, problem.
The whole drive was READ ONLY.
I spent some time on the PC trying to change this, and was then advised it was the MAC - MAC's wont read an external drive formatted with NTFS (the most common Windows formatting now days)
Bummer, this could be a huge stumbling block in the potential conversion!
However, thanks to my good mate SEAN from the MRN Engineering Dept, i found this link: http://www.apple.com/downloads/macosx/system_disk_utilities/paragonntfsformacosx.html
Shareware, so pay the price - but it works! By gosh it works.
Simple, easy to setup, and now that hard drive is completely portable.
Fantastic stuff.
