Heya Trevor,
I had someone help me set up my iBook G4 for an Optus Wireless 'Connect' USB a few months back. I'm about to upgrade to Optus Wireless 'Broadband' USB service.

Do I need to alter my settings and download a new program or is it all the same set-up that has already been installed?

Appreciate any advice you could offer.

Cheers

Hi,

I followed the instructions and had no joy as the Mobile Connect app kept crashing before I could do anything.

I then opened Internet Connect - which told me the system had detected new USB hardware (the Huawei gear). Then I added it as a new connection (I think), selected the Huawei G3 from the list and added the telephone number given above. Saved it and tried to connect. It seems to be working OK as I have turned off my AirPort and I am posting this!

Next I will see whether it works using just the one USB or if I have to continue using this one which has two.

Hope that helps.

P.

Hello,
just wanted to say thanks for putting up this info. I was having trouble getting connection to work on my sister's macbook, but after your advice its worked fine.
But i just bought a Mac desktop but the same instructions doesn't work. Is it because it's an OS X? Would greatly appreciate any help.

Downloaded your info etc. but receive the message "Internet Connect - Could not negtiate a connection with the remote PPP server. Please verify your settings and try again"
Have phoned so many Optus help nos. but no joy from them.
Can you help?
I am using a G5 iMac OS 10.4.5 However on my iBook G$ 10.4.6
I can't get anywhere after downloading the Software.
HELP.
As you know Optus are downright unhelpful!

Yvonne

Yvonne, in defence of Optus, i must repeat, they DO NOT SUPPORT this on MAC yet, so you shouldn't EXPECT it to work.

However, short of having a look at the MAC, i am not sure i can be of much help, this is a proven way to get it going.

If other have an explanation - please share it, however I had no problems.

Perhaps remove the device from your Network preferences, and start over, take it slow, it can be something simple.

Hi Rick,

Those UPDATED instructions and file come from Optus, although they are not yet supporting the Wireless on Mac.

I don't know i can offer much more, I got it working on the original instructions, and following that had a friend get success with the above instructions.

What error are you getting?

What OS are you using?

Hi Trevor,

I came across your post last week whilst trying to get the Optus wireless broadband dongle to work on one of the macs we have at work (Optus).

We have had no luck in getting the thing up and running and was hoping you could help in some way.

We have followed your previously posted instructions but still run into errors.

Any help would be much appreciated.

Hope to hear from you soon.

Best Regards,

Rick
