05 Aug 2008 - Google Streetview in AUSTRALIA
Well, FINALLY Streetview has been launched in Australia.

This is the Google service where you can view not just a sattelite photo but now a STREET level photo as if you were standing in teh middle of the road, looking around, zoom in, zoom out, walk along.

FOR THOSE WORRIED ABOUT PRIVACY the resolution of the Australian Photos is MUCH lower than anywhere else, numberplates are obscured and frankly it's hard to make anything out unless you know of it.

My house is shocking, I've got the bin on the front yard, and the Christmas lights half up still.  My Father in law is standing on the front yard with a ladder of his place, but WHAT AMAZES ME MOST about the Australian Streetview is the coverage.  This is not just Sydney.  Not just Melbourne, its COAST TO COAST, just massive coverage.

Imagine the time that would have been involved in just blurring out number plates!

I sincerely recommend you check it out at http://maps.google.com.au Just goto the place you want to see and click the STREETVIEW button and move the little yellow person to the place you want to 'stand' and view.

Here is my mum's pub!

Hi Trevor, unfortunately not all streets are able to be viewed. Hopefully in the future they will have all streets. I live near Greystanes and a lot of the streets aren't viewable.

Cheers Jen
