| I kept my Blackberry on over the Christmas period, because I wasn't essentially on Holidays, just taking advantage of the provided Public Holidays... So I received a few texts and emails, and even facebook messages this year. Telstra predicted 41 Million Phone calls on its network, and 46 million text messages over the Christmas period. But what's bad about all these messages? Anonymity. Not for the sender, but for me. I am not a fan of the generic mass message. Generic "Merry Christmas, hope you have a great day with your Family and Friends" So when I got a spare moment in the day, I took the time to send a few text messages, I clearly stated the persons name, mentioned something of their life, family or anything specific, just to be clear this message was to THEM not to EVERYONE. I mean, 10 years ago, we didnt send Christmas Cards 'to the householder' we at least took the time to address the envelope. Are we that time poor? I'm not sure - and I'm certainly no saint, plenty of people I didn't txt, and certainly plenty I should have called! But the one thing I took out of the period was to make it personal. That's what it's all about after all. |
