| 12 Mar 2009 - Is there use in replying to TOP TWITTERS? |
![]() |
| You know, my current obsession with Twitter makes me wonder - do people really think their message is going to get through when they reply to a celebrity twitterer? I follow a few, Stephen Fry (@stephenfry), Ashton Kutcher (aplusk), Demi Moore (@mrskuthcer), David Pogue (@pogue), and each of them has a mass of followers. @stephenfry is about to hit 300,000 followers (5th or 6th highest overall). So when he puts out a message, how many people respond. Well it's hard to know, because some people have private 'tweets', but, doing a search for @stephenfry, and setting the old stopwatch. Then refreshing and looking at the extra tweets, I can tell you he's getting almost ONE REPLY EVERY SECOND. Surely that is unmanagable? To his, and many others credit, they reply personally to a LOT of people.. but MANY more are left disappointed - because you KNOW they were hoping for a personal message! Anyway, just thought it worthwhile that you take the time to think about how overwhelming it must be to get that many replies. @Pogue, David Pogue, tech writer for the NY Times uses Twitter live to demonstrate at conferences, and also for simple questions - today, he asked for recommendations for a peice of software for his 11 year old son. Soon, plenty of suggestions. Oh the power. cheers @trevorlong http://twitter.com/search?q=%40stephenfry&source=refresh |
