| Being a complete Blackberry tragic, I thought tonight I would look at the new 8900 Curve as it compares physically to the majority of blackberrys on the market today (in use). I have several.. an 8700, 8300, 8310, Pearl, Pearl Flip, Bold and now Curve 8900. Side by side, you can see the 8700 is a Brick. But the original curve 8300 stands the test of time for size. In fact the new curve is almost exactly the same size (for accuracy, the new 8900 is 2mm longer, same width, 2mm thinner, and 0.9g heavier). But the design is outstanding on the new 8900. The pearls of course are a different device, and heavy users of text or email (in terms of typing not reading) should think twice. The Bold is the Big Brother of them all. Strong, Fast, Superior in many ways, but the 8900 Compared to Bold is staggering. Bold is 5mm longer, 6mm wider, 1.5mm thicker and 26.1g heavier. That's a lot considering its meant to be a pocket device. It's these stats that make the Curve 8900 such a compelling option. One device I think until now has had Blackberry's measure in terms of design and dimensions is the Nokia E71. Its failing for me is the keyboard. Were the keys as defined as the Curve it's a winner. But they arent. Comparatively, the E71 is 5mm longer, 3mm less in width, and 3.5mm Thinner. But it is 18g heavier. The weight is due in no small part to the metal casing. The metal feel and look sets the E71 apart. The curve comes to that party with its sleek metal back, and matches the E71 with a 3.2megapixel autofocus camera. So, in terms of a smartphone for email users - Blackberry Curve 8900 is seriously hard to compete with. SO - Telcos - when is it being offered to market? My though - and its just that - is that this device is in such demand globally Voda can only support in terms of stock, the Business Roll out they've announces. Perfectly timed to hit those Curve 8300 users ready to move to a new device. In time, it must go public. Surely? | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||
