| 17 Apr 2009 - Tweet Race - Kutcher vs CNN |
![]() |
| There's this really interesting, yet silly 'race' going on between actor Ashton Kutcher (@aplusk) and CNN (@cnnbrk) to be the first to reach 1,000,000 followers on Twitter. What that would mean is that every time Kutcher or CNN send out a 140char tweet, 1 million people are willing and ready to read it. (but by no means guarantees that audience). Kutcher said he would PUNK Ted Turner, founder of CNN if he won. Larry King from CNN has smiled through it and got involved through Kutcher's YouTube 'channel' so it's all a load of fun. Kutcher is now donating Mosquito Nets to fight malaria if he makes it to the million, and games giant EA is offering prizes to that Millionth follower.. The problem. There is no official count AGAINST people. All you can do is see who tops the list AT that time. Bigger problem - at about 999,900 Kutcher's numbers will drop dramatically with thousands of people likely to un-follow him, and then try to 're-follow' him to be the millionth!. I've seen it before with @pogue - David Pogue, NYTimes Columnist. For fun he offered a book in a similar way... and that's what happened. And with respect to @pogue, imagine how much 'worse' it will be on a multiple of thousands.. Good luck - I un-followed @aplusk weeks ago, I like reading his stuff every now and then, but it was becoming clutter and ruining my twitter experience, so, for now, if I want to know what he's saying, I just go to http://www.twitter.com/aplusk where anyone can read it all... To keep your eye on the 'race' go to http://tweetrace.com/ From the looks of it, @aplusk will get them by 2-3 hours |
