03 Jul 2009 - All-in-one PC from Viewsonic?
Viewsonic is a name we pretty much associate with Monitors. So why now are they moving into the PC market?

I'd guess it's simple - the means to produce low cost "PC's" is readily available with the mass production of 'netbooks' making all the components for low cost, yet usable performance computers easy to get, and because they are netbook based, it means they are smaller too!

So, if you can combine with that the means to produce low cost displays it really makes sense to combine the two and release an 'all in one' PC/Monitor Combo.

Moving to the style made popular by Apple for decades, but more recently with the iMac, Viewsonic have today announced the VPC-100 All-in-one PC.

This is a 19 inch display, with PC built in, and at just 35mm 'deep', it's a fair unit which at just $899, is a great option for the family's social networking/web/email use, or for a student's research and assignments.

Going Green? The Viewsonic lays claim to a 50% energy use reduction - compared I assume to having a PC AND Monitor separately.

It packs an Intel Atom 1.6GHz processor, 1GB Ram, a 160GB Hard-drive, WiFi, LAN, 4-in-1 memory card reader  and 4 USB ports.

Add to that a DVD R/W burner all running off Windows XP Home and you've got a great concept system.

Sounds like an option at the low price end of the market.

Considering you'll get a PC for that price - or less, but not a monitor, why not have a look at the combo? Interesting...

Well worth checking out.
