07 Jul 2009 - Open Source DVD Burning
Ok, so from time to time I realise that I've been living under a rock.

I purchased NERO some year or so ago to burn video files from my PC to disk to allow me to watch them on any old DVD player.

Great!

Tonight I sit here at my workbench configuring my new Windows 7 Machine.  I setup Adobe Premiere Pro - works well. Capture some DV Video - works well.  Export as AVI files - works well.  Oops no Nero.

My version won't install - incompatible.

So, while I wait for the 300+MB download of the new Nero trial version I do a quick google search for "DVD Burn Video" - found a great lifehacker article about a program called DVD FLICK - www.dvdflick.net

Open Source - what's that mean - FREE

This is software written by the people for the people to coin a phrase:)

So, I click download.  I'm not asked for all my personal details, just save!

Seconds later (little under 13MB) it's done.  (Meanwhile Nero is STILL downloading)

I open DVD Flick, and find a clean and simple interface.  I import some videos, edit the project name and settings, then choose a menu.  As I write this the program is encoding and burning my video.

Absolutely unbelievable.  Really.

This is the simplest program I've come across in ages, and it does JUST what I want it to do.

Very impressed, highly recommended.  I'll put it through its paces in much more detail in the future.
