| 07 Jul 2009 - Twitter FAIL - Virgin Airlines |

Look, I don't claim to be the guru of all twitter guru's but sometimes I just cannot beleive how the simplest things can be missed by huge companies spending tens of thousands on ideas and execution of them. Today, I saw a post for the new Virgin comp "win 4320 minutes in LA" - thats 3 days. So, great idea - You enter, you win, you have to tweet EVERY MINUTE you are in LA. Great idea! The followers for those tweets will be interested, but also annoyed - I mean after 10 it will be something you don't follow, but maybe check in on once in a while. Where VIRGIN have missed the point here is the PRE PROMOTION of the event. You goto the website (http://www.4320la.com/) and enter - couldn't be easier. They even ask you in 140 chars to submit your entry. I did it, and expected to be re-directed to Twitter to see my 'entry' posted as my latest Tweet or Update. But no. Nothing. SURELY if they tweeted it for you, the message would spread over and over. All my followers would have seen my entry, perhaps clicked to enter themselves, and so on and so forth. Seriously - Excellent comp idea, but marketing FAIL for the missed opportunity here. Integrating the tweets is EASY - Even i've worked out how to program that! |
