| Sure, it's free - now. And sure, that free version will shut down on you regularly from March 1 2010, and then stop working altogether on June 1, but who would knock back a test drive - and an extended one at that. Think of it this way, you're getting a full service product for EIGHT MONTHS - that's ridiculous! Why? Because it really is quite good. Better than XP, and better than Vista - surely that's all you need to know. I've been running Windows 7 on a desktop for months now, since the Beta. And I was immediately impressed. Since then the RC version (Release Candidate) has come out, which once installed will work until March next year. Likewise I've been running that on a machine, PLUS running it on my Asus EEEPc and again, it's fantastic. I've had some driver issues, which you must expect if you're coming from XP all the way up to 7. But have no fear, go to the manufacturer site and find a new driver (Vista drivers work for the most part) and off you're running. And frankly, if it's too hard- then it's too old and you should upgrade the gear! It's not exactly a process for 'everyone' right now, but it isn't too hard to find online installation instructions for Windows 7 RC. The final Windows 7 will hit stores on October 22 - Release to Manufacture (RTM) versions are already spreading across the web, but avoid those, you're better off with the official RC version. Go here to download the RC - Give it a try - WELL worth it |
