22 Nov 2007 - Election Day - Your technology Options.
The Election is here, it's just two days away - FINALLY.

Before you vote - to find your nearest polling booth, simply go to http://www.aec.gov.au/polling_place_locator/index.htm a SIMPLE and easy to use locator! Excellent work.

Now, casting your vote might be the most UN-TECH thing in history, but the rest of the day doesnt have to be that way does it!

For most, the election is just that, vote and off you go.

But for many, there is a definite interest on the Saturday night in knowing WHAT is going on!

Of course if you are anywhere near a radio, 2GB should be your number 1 pick, with Alan Jones, Eric Roozendall and Sen Bill Heffernan providing comprehensive coverage from the Tally room floor.

BUT, if you are not at home, or in the car, or within reach of a portable radio (that should cover the plugs for 2GB), what will you do?

If you're in the office or in your home Study or anywhere (given Mobile internet today!) with decent INTERNET ACCESS here are the sites for you:
http://www.aec.gov.au - Look for the VIRTUAL TALLY ROOM
http://www.abc.net.au/elections/federal/2007/ - Frankly, always one of the best and most comprehensive coverage, with seat counts, pendulums, and seat info.
http://www.livenews.com.au - Macquarie National News for news updates
http://www.smh.com.au/federal-election-2007/ - The Fairfax Election Site
http://www.news.com.au/feature/0,,5012863,00.html - News Limited's Election Site (Check out VOTE-A-MATIC before the Poll for an interesting way to decide!)
http://www.google.com.au/election2007/ - Google's Election site for information and maps on all the electorates.

The best thing to do if you want RAW DATA is to visit the AEC site, simply click the electorate and view the count as it happens, very good simple information.  For seat counts and such, look for the ABC and News/Fairfax Sites.

If you do NOT have access to a Radio/TV or the Internet, what about your Mobile phone? Plenty of the Mobile Portals will have news updates, but one good offering will be Telstra - if you have NextG - look to the phone's Bigpond menu for the LIVE CHANNEL 9 TV feed, as well as the ABC and SKY news feeds as normally available.

So while voting is pen and paper, your coverage across the day certainly doesn't need to be!
