| 13 Dec 2007 - Google Streetview coming to Australia |
 |
It cannot be far off now - there have been a few sightings of GOOGLE STREETVIEW CARS on the streets of Sydney and Melbourne.
Maroubra area in Sydney and now in Melbourne, which has brought them to national attention over a tragic murder case. Livenews.com.au Story Here
While the media reports are not entirely accurate - the police have lead them astray by saying there are recent "Satellite images" taken in the area - the images in fact are NOT Satellite, they are STREET images.
The "Van" Could infact be a car, what you will see is a normal looking car, with roof racks and a STRANGE LOOKING thing POINTING up a meter or so from the roof. On top of that will be a sphere, which houses multiple cameras, which are taking constant photos and logging them to a specific GPS location.
These images are then matched to Google Maps, and made available as STREET VIEWS.
Pretty exciting stuff. Go to Google Maps - maps.google.com and click STREETVIEW icon if you are in the States - plenty of US cities already have it.
What the POLICE are hoping to see are suspicious vehicles or movements in the area - highly unlikely I think, but as they say, certainly worth looking at!
Let me know if you see the Google Car on the streets in your area - better still - Try snap a photo!
