| 17 Dec 2007 - Reflecting... Mobile Computing - its very real... |
 |
There is a lot of talk about mobile computing, and mobile everything really.. but here's where I just need to sit back, take a moment, and reflect that this IS something that is REAL.
Here I sit, on a trusty City Rail Tangara OD6839, Wyong Service (shant be going all the way, its just less stops to Hornsby!), and I sit here, with the MacBook Pro, and Telstra's NextG Wireless Broadband writing this, surfing the web doing whatever I could do at work - here on a TRAIN!
It really is Beyond 2000 kinda stuff - Remember that show! Ahh how cool it all looked - Someone really should do a "revisit" of that show, see how much of it (if any) really became household..
Speedtest.net reports 2365 kb/s downloads, 535kb/s uploads - pretty good, ON A TRAIN!
Seriously though, a LOT of ADSL plans are not that fast, and if you are a mobile user - at all - you must consider this.
I note with interest today Telstra reduced the price of this high speed device I am on by $70 per MONTH! from $184 down to $114 - clearly in response to market pressure - there just was no justification for paying THAT much with so many players in the market.
Remember, if you are looking for Mobile Internet - Optus, 3, Vodafone, Telstra, even Unwired, all offer SOME SORT of solution - Like anything Tech, you need to consider WHAT you will use it for and HOW MUCH you are prepared to either pay, or sacrifice if you can't pay the price.
Check it out.
