Plenty of news about today regarding GOOGLE setting up their very own online encyclopedia.
Known as the "Knol" project, Google's idea is very similar to Wikipedia, with users generating content on issues and topics known to them, the big difference being CASH - Google will offer financial incentives to contributors through splits of the page revenue I guess.
All well and good - but does Google really have to have "one of everything". Wikipedia is a great site - when tempered with the knowledge that it is NOT 100% reliable - always remember anyone could have written what you may be taking for fact - and as such you should always double check your souce - I'd hate for the future to see people checking KNOL and then double checking it on WIKIPEDIA.
Perhaps a better idea is for Google to buy the Encyclopedia Britannica? Surely they are big enough? Format it in a much more simple way like wikipedia and whack some text ads in it - cash will roll in.
Anyway, keep your eye out for Knol - and be wary!
