| Well, I can't give you a date, but i can now confirm that FOXTEL's HD service will come in the next few months, THIS half of 2008. It's called FOXTEL HD+ (i guess they are trying to say they have MORE than just HD like the Free to Air Networks). So much to tell you. Firstly, 4 channels at launch (more to come in May 2009) FOXSPORTS HD ESPN HD BBC HD DOCUMENTARY HD (I call it that, but its actually a mix of DISCOVERY HD and NATIONAL GEOGRAPHIC HD) Not really a huge content offering, but it sounds like all they can do with the current infrastructure. In May 2009, the new D3 Sattelite will be online, allowing for more HD and SD channels, plus an upgrade in cable infrastructure at the same time. At the same time, a new version of the IQ box will be launched. From what I can tell, the BIG advance in this will be tuners - at this time you are limited to recording TWO shows and if you are recording two shows you can only watch another recorded show. WIth IQ2 you will be able to watch one LIVE show, WHILE recording TWO others. Plus there is another pipe into the box which Foxtel will use to PUSH HD Movies, allowing you to have on file ready to go 8-10 movies Truely ON DEMAND. With the new 320GIG hard drive, this would be annoying to me, as i dont watch too many movies and would prefer ALL the space to be for MY RECORDINGS. All the HD channels will come AS IS from the channel makers, so if they are 720p that's what you get - from what I can tell, ESPN will be in 720p the others in 1080i. The new tv guide and planner is fresh, new colours and such. It all looks great, pricing is a way off being announced, so it will be interesting to see how it goes. One key thing Foxtel said today, that it is their GOAL to have EVERYONE with IQ - so expect perhaps to see IQ come RIGHT DOWN in price so more people pick it up, or even to become STANDARD, with IQ HD+ being the option... perhaps? or am i just Dreaming??
