16 Feb 2008 - Wireless Broadband - HSDPA Update
I wrote last year about the launch of Optus Wireless Broadband, competing with Telstra's Bigpond Wireless.

Back then, the Bigpond product had the absolute win, just because its speed was staggering - 2200kb/s downloads, 1000kb/s uploads.  But at $114 a month, it is at a price!

The Optus product is MUCH more affordable, but lacks speed.

Now tonight, just for fun, i tested the speed of BOTH again.

Interestingly, the Optus connection was remarkably fast compared to last year, up to 1700kb/s, last year i struggled to get 900kb/s.

At the same time, Telstra's was between 1600 and 1900kb/s.

So the downloads were quite close - and a good $50 a month or more different in price.

UPLOADS were different, optus consistently at 300kb/s, while Telstra is above 900kb/s.

Just an interesting update, I'd still choose the Telstra product for potential speed - but on a budget, Optus is the go... Interesting...
