30 Apr 2008 - HP's THRIVE Pavillion dv6000
HP's THRIVE Branded Pavillion dv6000 has been a pleasure to use.

Up front, I will say i've had some issues with the built in mouse touchpad, but there is rarely a time when I dont plug in a mouse, so I haven't even bothered to contact HP!  I'm sure its a simple driver or hardware issue.

This dv6000 handles Vista with ease.  I haven't had a single performance issue with Vista, nor have I had any compatability or installation issues.

The front of unit Headphone and Microphone jack's are well placed, and so much easier to use than side mounted when you are quickly trying to whack a headset in.  While simplistic, it is these simple features which I think make a unit like this more 'usable'.

I'm not a huge fan of the touch sensitive buttons for Volume and Music Player controls.  I never really know if the volume is actually going up or down, i'd prefer a good old fashioned dial on the side or front!

The Keyboard is light to touch, and well layed out, the sleek and shiny metallic like surface acutally makes for a comfortable long term typing experience.

Here's my big gripe though - and I'm not entirely sure its a Vista or a HP thing.  Shutting the lid.

My biggest love of the MacBook was that i could snap it shut, and it was done.  Open it up later, and up she goes ready to go.

With this though, If I shut the lid, and put it in my bag, my bag goes into overheat mode with the laptop still running and the fan blaring.

The only way I've found around this is to Shutdown.  Works fine - but not really optimal?

I'll work on that!
